EU warned Gazprom this week to meet its commitment towards the 25 community member states in regard of the supply contracts Gazprom has already signed. But the Russian leading state-run company Gazprom replied by rejecting any limitation of EU against its expansion policies.
The European Commission on April 20 called on Gazprom to honor its gas supply commitments to EU members following comments by top Gazprom officials that were widely seen as a threat to cut off supplies if EU countries create political difficulties for Gazprom, news agencies reported (see "RFE/RL Newsline," April 18 and 20, 2006).
In response, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov told "The Moscow Times" that it is up to the EU to clarify its goals and determine how much gas it wants to buy from Russia.
